Buckeye Free Agents

Now that the draft is over, the real rookie feeding frenzy begins as teams start signing the undrafted rookies. Several Buckeyes have been signed. It's kind of tough to find information about these guys, but here's what I've been able to pick up:

T.J. Downing - Arizona Cardinals
Brandon Mitchell - Houston Texans
David Patterson - Atlanta Falcons
Antonio Smith - Indianapolis Colts(!)

Justin Zwick will be attending a rookie minicamp with the Colts this weekend, with the goal of impressing them and getting a contract. If he does, he's sure to unseat whatever yahoo Indy currently has at QB. Anyone know anything about their current starter? You never see the guy on TV or anything.

If Zwick catches on with the Colts (and I think he has a good shot), that'll make five Buckeye rookies on the Colts roster. That would require you, by Buckeye law, to regard them as one of your three favorite teams.

One other note: Patterson's free agent contract with the Falcons is apparently the largest free agent rookie contract. I guess that'd take a lot of the sting out of not being drafted.

Zwick
I've long been a believer that Justin Zwick could be, at the very least, a capable backup in the NFL.  He was never much of a big play guy, but he had a great completion percentage (over 60% each of the last 2 years) and just never seemed to make huge mistakes.  He was a blue-chip prospect, and had many of the Ohio state records coming out of high school.  The ability is there, it just so happened that he happened to be at the same position, at the same place, at the same time as a Heisman Trophy winner.

He's not incredibly mobile; but if the Colts do pick him up (with their great o-line), I don't know that he'd need to be in order to be successful.  Picking who will be successful in the NFL at this point is a complete crap shoot, but I really think Zwick would be one Peyton Manning injury away from pleasantly surprising a lot of people.
